Then I highly recommend Legend of the Seeker. This story is loosely based on Terry Goodkind's novels Sword of Truth.
A little background...
It is set in an alternate universe created by Goodkind in a Medieval-like time era. The lands are divided in three parts: D'hara, Midlands, and Westland. There exists a border separating the Midlands from the Westlands. On the Westland side of the border there is no magic. A confessor is on a mission to find the Seeker and deliver to him the Book of Counted Shadows so that he can defeat Darken Rahl who is spreading menace to the Midlands.
What you will find...
There are many interesting characters in this series. I believe that the actors embody their characters well. It is very believable. The wardrobe is simply superb. The details they put into the authencity is amazing. The clothes are handmade and the sets are very realistic. It will take you back to the Medieval times and maybe even Goodkind's fictional world.
Critique...
The plot twists are exciting but can be slightly predictable with Richard's "I need to save them!" attitude. Throughout the episodes you will find drama, even some comedy, and action to last a life time. The swordplay--although the outcome is predictable like much of the TV shows and movies out there--are often exciting and well choreographed. The attention to detail is remarkable from the stiches on the wardrobe down to the knick on the hilt of the Sword of Truth. There are very interesting characters you will meet along the way from Nightwisps to D'haran soldiers.
All in all I give the Legend of the Seeker a 4.3 out of 5.0 rating. You can watch it on here on the show's official website or on hulu.com.
